Anti-Foreclosure Organizers: Take back the Front Page!
These days it’s difficult to get an op-ed posted about the foreclosure crisis in today's newspapers. While it arguably the most damaging development within the nation’s financial system, editors, and presumably readers, are tired of hearing about people losing their homes, since this was story that kicked off all the coverage about the economic crisis two years ago.
What I hope will keep foreclosures – and the need for government to aggressively prevent them – in the headlines will be some good ole fashion fight-back, the success of community organizers to get homeowners in distress to say, "Hell no, we won't go." The most recent Nation features a story about community organizing efforts to fight against foreclosures.
May this be the sign of things to come.
