New Yorkers to Spitzer: Do Something about Foreclosures
The financial justice coalition, New Yorkers for Responsible Lending (NYRL), which has over 130 member organizations from across New York State, called on Governor Spitzer, in a press conference in Albany yesterday, to act on the foreclosure crisis that will threaten up to 100,000 homeowners throughout New York State this year.
The message was simple. Give New Yorkers the tools necessary to stave off foreclosure. Specifically, NYRL called on the Governor to create a loan remediation fund as well put more money towards education and counseling.
Articles in upstate papers document what many living in the five boroughs don't realize, that foreclosures are devastating rural parts of New York State as well as the cities.
It boggles the mind to think that the Governor hasn't called a unofficial state of emergency to help all the familes being hit by this decidedly un-natural disaster. Not only does NYRL have an understanding of the foreclosure problem, it is offering the Governor something he hasn't seemed to generate yet on his own - a way to help people.
