Letter to the editor of the week!
In honor of National Cover the Uninsured Week I present our Letter to The Editor of the Week.
Los Angeles Times reader Jon O'Neil brings home another aspect of the middle class squeeze in his letter as well, how Americans suffer from less vacation time and less health coverage and it makes us sicker. And I for one am sick of the problem going unresolved!
Jon O'Neil, we salute you!

According to the Commonwealth Fund, 41% of moderate-income Americans went without health insurance for a part of 2005, up from 28% in 2001 (April 26). This is a trend that must be reversed.
American workers are among the most productive in the world, doing without the extended vacations of European workers. Certainly such devotion should be reciprocated by those who reap the rewards of labor: namely, employers and the government. Employees' health should be assured. Healthcare should not be treated as a luxury only the wealthy can afford; it is a benefit American workers have more than earned. The time has come for rank-and-file workers to demand that business and government leaders address this growing crisis before it gets any worse.

So um, now might be a good time to remind you all that DMI isn't just complaining about how the uninsured need health coverage- we're bringing people together to talk about a real solution that has already been made law in Maryland! This Monday morning May 8th find out about Fair Share Health Care legislation and how lawmakers and organizers are using Fair Share campaigns to address the crisis in health coverage.
