Hostile Takeover LIVE!
DMI is teaming up with Progressive Legislative Action Network on May 10th to put on what will be a really exciting event featuring DMI guest blogger David Sirota (ok so you probably know about him for reasons other than his guest blogging stint here, like his work as press secretary to Montana's new and happening Governor Schweitzer or his days running Move On's Misleader Campaign against the Bush administration).
The event is called Campaign '06: The Year of the Hostile Takeover? and it will be a conversation about why our middle class is disappearing and who is responsible. Sirota's latest book "Hostile Takeover : How Big Money and Corruption Conquered Our Government--and How We Take It Back" answers that question with its title. I've been reading the book and even if you already have been following the money for years it is a very informative and useful resource. In a recent piece Sirota wrote for In These Times Magazine he calls the philosophy publicly projected by the Democratic leaders trying to take back Congress "Seinfeldian". Add that one to wikipedia.
An event with just Sirota himself could have been enough to get you out on a Wednesday night. But because we love you our event features more panelists to make the discussion event hotter.
Like say, Howard Wolfson.. Howard Wolfson is one of the most famed political consultants around. He has worked for some Democrats that Sirota has criticized in his work. Can they agree?
For the elected's perspective we have rising star New York Assemblymember Adriano Espaillat. And rounding out the panel is Harvard Professor Dr. Elizabeth Warren, author of "The Two-Income Trap: Why Middle Class Mothers and Fathers are Going Broke". Dr. Warren was named by The National Law Journal as one of the Fifty Most Influential Women Lawyers in America and her book has really made waves.
The opportunity to hear from this range of opinion-leaders on a topic that's behind so much of the news doesn't happen every week. But don't worry, you can thank the Progressive Legislative Action Network and DMI later. RSVP today!
