Tierney quits Times, becomes contortionist
Or at least he should. He seems to be in the wrong profession.
Tierney says in today's Times with disdain:
"The surest way to impress the judges for a journalism prize is to write a series of articles that spur a legislature to right some evil, particularly if it was committed by a corporation."
The horror.
John Tierney is upset about the fact that there are too many people using the law and journalism to right wrongs. Instead, he wants law and journalism schools to hire more faculty who do not wish to right wrongs, or perhaps wish to pretend that those wrongs do not exist.
I have a better idea: why don't we ask journalism schools to offer a major in "how to be a pretend journalist that is actually paid by the White House to advance their agenda?" (Maybe the gentleman pictured is available to teach?) Or ask law schools to offer a special course just for people intent upon dismantling the civil justice system. That should add some balance.
But if Tierney is really concerned with one perspective dominating the discourse, perhaps he should spend a little less time worried about who is working at law schools, and a little more time worrying about who is working at the White House.
